Has anybody ever thought why it is common only for men to play poker? From time immemorial women have been considered to be a talisman for men, bringing good luck at a gambling table.
Nobody will dare to argue that very often women have much more luck than the sterner sex, and we cannot say that famous female logic plays here third fiddle. Women’s psychology is utterly different, it is easier for them to stop in a gamble.
Women are not obsessive about victory and they do not consider losing to be a catastrophe. And a man… He should always and everywhere be the winner. And it is difficult to argue with this. The whole gambling industry, and poker industry in particular, is designed today mostly for men (just think of Strip poker). But owners of gambling business have shown recently a rising interest towards female gamblers.
For example, some gambling houses offer women various poker bonuses, held female tournaments during which it is men who play the role of talismans. Moreover, women take more and more prize-winning places, gradually superseding men.
And meanwhile, poker world has always belonged to men. It was proved by Steve MakKuin in the role of “Cincinnati Kid” and then Mel Gibson acting as dandy “Maverick”… The movies became smash hits, and the gamble ruled all casinos in the world. The world of “Full Houses” and “Straight Flushes” represented extremely smoke-filled poker halls crowded solely with men.
But for the last 2-3 years the percentage female poker players in the male world has increased greatly. Women playing poker professionally succeeded in winning huge sums of money at poker tournaments, thereby gaining popularity and respect.
Earlier only men were interested in poker, but after the latest poker boom spread among the major part of the population women try to take the lead in this gamble. Earlier only 10% of the casino gamblers were women. Nowadays the majority of women still do not dare to play in the real casino and poker club due to old chauvinistic moods and false ideas about smoke-filled halls, etc.
But still women are supposed to conquer the world of poker in real casinos. According to the latest research, more than one third of all poker players are women! And where do women play? They play poker on-line! The majority of female players prefer an online game rather than a real one. Virtual poker allow women to get trained in the game and gain experience in habitual surroundings, in the domestic atmosphere of security and comfort: there is no need to dress up and you can avoid gender discrimination while playing the game.
Women are also attracted by relatively low bets of online casinos. Unlike the weaker sex, men long for victory, while women perceive poker games as an opportunity to escape reality. All in all, men play in order to win, and women play because of social motives.
